QuickBooks Payroll

Intuit, the makers of QuickBooks, offers partial-service payroll through QuickBooks software for small business owners who have the time and tax knowledge to do more themselves. The payroll software provides a system to personally process employee payroll and manage taxes.

The payroll service enables someone to process paychecks, calculates payroll taxes, and can generate reports to use for accounting purposes or create federal and state tax forms for filing. QuickBooks 2008 or newer is required, and the business owner has a choice between the Basic and Enhanced versions.

QuickBooks Payroll Basic features paycheck processing payroll tax calculations. It also generates reports to be used in tax preparation.

QuickBooks Payroll Enhanced also features paycheck processing and tax calculations plus generated federal and state tax forms with E-File and E-Pay.

Users must be certain to check for updates and downloads to ensure deductions reflect the most current tax tables. For Enhanced users, there is the added step of processing payroll tax forms on schedule. QuickBooks only prepares the forms — the business owner must review, print and send all tax forms on time.

The payroll service runs within the QuickBooks program so there is never a need to enter data twice. And expert support is always available by either contacting dedicated payroll specialists or by utilizing the payroll knowledge base.

There are also add-on options which come at a nominal fee. Choose from Direct Deposit401(k) Retirement PlansPay-As-You-Go Workers' Compensation, and Healthcare Plans.

The service is a cost effective, efficient option and keeps payroll processing in-house.
